INTRODUCTION
This curriculum outlines key training objectives, outcomes and deliverables regarding basic information and communication technology (ICT) capacity development of education managers, heads of institutions, teachers, parents and role players, who will be beneficiaries of Computers for Education and Development (CFED) ICT education project.
Training programme of CFED beneficiary institutions forms part of Accra Institute of Technology (AIT)’s broad ICT education programme of providing education managers and educators in the Accra Metropolis and indeed the whole of Ghana with knowledge, skills and expertise required to propel Ghana’s education and development into a global learning terrain.
Training and capacity building for all CFED beneficiaries is at 3 levels: Sensitization of all ICT education role players in CFED beneficiary institution, technical training aimed at first level user support skills development for a few educators, and ICT application and pedagogy capacity development for all educators in the beneficiary institution.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES
The mission of CFED is to digitize education for development: - support government’s efforts at providing the Ghanaian child with opportunities to be a global competitive participant. With regard to CFED mission:
I.The objective of the first level training – sensitization of CFED computer recipient institution is to inculcate in role players the culture of using ICT to stimulate thinking and creativity in students, and unearth ICT education champions in recipient institution.
II. The objective of technical skills training is to develop IT skills in teachers to sustain and optimize the use of the infrastructure provided in the institution.
II. The objective of training in computer applications is for all teachers to develop basic skills to use ICT in their administrative chores, and produce learners who will be able to apply ICT as productive individuals in the 21st century.
Sensitization will be compulsory for all role players including education managers in the vicinity in which the recipient institution is located, heads of institutions, teachers and parents/PTA members of a CFED ICT beneficiary institution. The ICT training will entail providing basic IT knowledge in, specifically the personal computer (PC) and acquiring tailor-made, hands-on application skills and ICT pedagogy.
TRAINING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND DELIVERABLES
a) Sensitization of role players in ICT for education: At the end of this half-day seminar, participants will appreciate the role of ICT in education, have update on resources, knowledge and skills required to implement an ICT education programme in schools, acquire information on how ICT is an essential administrative tool for teachers, introduce ICT pedagogy such as resource, project etc… based learning and how to incorporate ICT into the school curriculum.
b) Basic Hardware Knowledge: At the end of a day training session, basic IT (Hardware) knowledge acquired will be;
Computers, definition; types; e.g. micro-computers, Pentiums; parts such as CPU, monitors, etc…; Input, output and storage devices, peripherals computer interface ie.. Desktop, VGA, etc…document and filing systems trouble shooting… etc…. +evaluation and assessments.
c) Basic Software knowledge in half a day will be on:
Types of software; OS and Application, Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, Linux…. Etc. Emphasis will be on MS. Windows and Office. + evaluation and assessments.
d) Hands-on Application software Skills outcome
For 3 days, basic skills acquired will include; mouse, keyboard perfection using Mavis Beacon, word-processing;- paintbrush, clipart, drawing, scanning. etc…; Power-point, presentation using the digital projector, Camera, picture loading and insertions; basic Internet information skills, communication via e-mails use of spreadsheets for data capture, printing etc… etc… + evaluation and assessments.
e) Deliverables
At the end of the training session, each trainee will produce a report on key skills set developed as follows:
1. Prototype class report; including writing lesson notes; listing class register of learners with marks; teaching of subject using presentations; acquiring information from the internet for teaching.
2. Trainees must be able to type at a reasonable speed of 50 wpm using sMavis Beacon software
3. Each trainee should be able to teach using power point
4. Each trainee must be able to generate graphs using spreadsheets
5. Each trainee should be able to provide a class project budget using spreadsheet
6. Each trainee report will be bound and presented as training outcome
7. CFED with AIT is keen on providing further Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters, and PhD programs in ICT for educationa.
