CFED provides only high quality refurbished P4 PCs on demand. We bridge the digital divide by providing quality P4 computers to institutions and organizations who otherwise are not able to afford brand new PCs. We will however work with brand New Computer dealers to deploy computers to schools that require them.
Minimum specifications of Computers provided by CFED are:
- 100% Pentium 4 or equivalent PCs with:
- a minimum of 1Gb Mb RAM
- between 2.0Ghz – 3.0 Ghz+ processors (AMD – XP+ processor, Celeron – 1.5Ghz+ processor)
- between 100 Gb and 160Gb+ hard disks
- 100% of P4s have CD-ROM or DVD Drives
- 100% of machines have floppy disk drive CD/DVD ROM drive or usb port
- We also provide P4 Laptops; and
- Licensed Windows OS
Each machine is a full system - boxed and securely packaged complete with its own colour monitor, keyboard, mouse and cables. Power plugs are UK standard (three square pins)
Eligible Recipient
Institutions, organizations and individuals eligible for computers from CFED include the following:
1. Educational institutions and organizations: All Schools (Government and Private, etc…), Universities, Polytechnics, all types of Colleges, Libraries, trade centres and Cyber Cafes
2. All Non Governmental Institutions (Foreign and Local) and faith based organisations
3. Individuals: University Lecturers, teachers, nurses, Librarians, students and workers in general who will make productive use of PCs provided.
Recipient contribution
Computer Aid and close the gap, both charge a handling fee plus shipping to a computers’ destination. Major costs to recipients are embodied in shipping and handling charges.
CFED will pre-finance all costs of (Shipping and handling) to the recipient. A cost recovery collection fee will be agreed upon per desktop PC with Flat screen monitors will be charged (Cash and Carry). CFED will provide a one year back to base warranty where it pre-finances and charges agreed upon.
CFED will be happy to discuss non pre-financing situations. Recipients will pay all costs upfront. A collective order with recipients will be agreed and facilitated. No warranty will be provided by CFED in this case. All encumbrances will be borne by recipient.
CFED will also be happy to work with brand new computer providers.
Application:
All institutions, organizations and individuals that take computers from CFED will have to FILL AN APPLICATION FORM. This form will be available at CFED offices, Accra Institute of Technology (AIT)., and a copy of the form will be e-mailed upon request to recipients. Requests are to be made to hillar@cfedonline.org
Guarantee Quantity:
Quantity of Computers awarded to applicants will depend on stocks available in a CFED pre-financed situation. Unlimited quantity will be available if not pre-financed by CFED. Collective orders covering a number of different institutions could have a minimum of 300 computers in a 20 foot container, 500 in a 40 foot container.
Delivery process
Computer Aid or Close the Gap and CFED will provide computers only to organizations, institutions and individuals with whom they have pre-discussed and agreed on delivery. This is critical to ensure that computers are used for productive and sustained purposes only. Collection designated points will be communicated in writing to recipients. A CFED computer inspection and collection depot is under construction. It will serve as the depot for collection of end of life PCs for professionally disposal processes and practices.
Time Lines of delivery: It takes about a week to process all applications. When payments clear in computer Aid’s account it takes between 8 and 10 weeks for PC delivery to the recipient.
Installation and Training
Computers will be installed under the supervision of CFED or its appointed technician. Technical training will also be provided in installations without in-house-technician for a fee. Where there is in-house-technician CFED will be notified of installation for standard inspection. ICT pedagogy training will be mandatory for heads, staff and parents of schools with no ICT experience.
Usage of Computers
Computers supplied under this Project are strictly and exclusively for official use in an educational institution, or an NGO. An exemption is a cyber café and individual workers who would use the for productive purposes. Computers will not be used for commercial purposes or sold to a 3rd party, and cannot be stripped, cannibalized or disposed off in any form without the consent of CFED.
Warranty/Guarantee
CFED will provide a one year warranty which will enable recipients replace parts or the whole computer within a 12 month period. This situation subsists only when the required collection fees per PC is paid and no human error is the cause of computer’s malfunction.
